Quick Answer

Quick answer: EX Ryuuou Shrine is a new high-difficulty challenge unlocked through Final Chapter story progress. Bring a level 46+ party, use fire, lightning, or light weapons, and prioritize killing Ryuuou Shadows the moment they appear. There are no healing springs in EX, so bring a Priest or other recovery source. The main reward is a first clear title.

Use the DQ1 Final Chapter guide for unlock steps and the Ryuuou gacha picks guide for banner context.

EX Ryuuou Shrine is not available at the start of the DQ1 event. Unlock it by:

  1. Finishing any remaining Chapter 2 story markers.
  2. Pushing visible Final Chapter story markers until the EX shrine entry appears in your event menu or map list.
  3. Tapping the EX entry to confirm the stage screen and clear conditions before spending stamina.

If the EX entry does not appear, continue the visible story route and re-check after each new unlock.

Boss Weakness and Attributes

AttributeEffectiveness
FireSuper weak (highest damage)
LightningWeak
LightWeak
OtherNeutral

Ryuuou uses a charm-inflicting spell attack fired diagonally toward the player. Standing directly in front of Ryuuou avoids it. Ryuuou also deploys a barrier floor around itself; the fixed damage is 20 per tick.

Top Build: Ryuuou Staff Mage

Equip Ryuuou Staff on a Mage as your main attacker. The staff deals super-effective fire damage from a safe distance, and pairing it with the Ryuuou armor set raises its damage further.

SlotRecommendationWhy
Main weaponRyuuou StaffSuper-effective fire damage; wide-range special at low gauge cost; built-in charm resistance and Ryuuou damage bonus
Sub weaponMetal Wing or Roto SwordCovers gaps or switches for boss burst
ArmorRyuuou series (helm, robe top, robe bottom)Fire spell resistance + staff damage boost + charm resistance; obtained through gacha
Mage memoryRyuuouHigh attack magic; starts with Mera Tsubute; magic crit +5%
PriestEquipped for healingEX has no recovery springs, so a dedicated healer improves consistency

Alternative: Physical Build

If you do not own Ryuuou Staff, use Queen’s Whip for mob clearing (ranged AOE) and Roto Sword or Crystal Claw for the boss. This is a closer-range fight, so dodge timing matters more.

Low-Rarity Alternative

Use Mage Staff for mob waves and switch to Flame Sword during special gauge bursts. Build around your highest-damage character for the boss.

EX-Specific Mechanics

No Healing Springs

Unlike normal and Challenge difficulties, EX removes the healing statue (recovery spring). If your team takes damage during mob waves, you enter the boss fight with lower HP. Bring a Priest or other recovery source.

Increased Monster Count

EX spawns significantly more monsters than other difficulties. Wide-range special weapons that can clear groups efficiently are strongly recommended.

Changed Shadow Spawn Pattern

In normal Ryuuou Shrine, Ryuuou Shadows appear only during the countdown instant-kill charge attack (four shadows in a row). In EX, shadows can also appear outside that timing, with two shadows spawning at additional moments. Kill shadows immediately — while they are alive, damage to the boss is reduced.

Red Door Ryuuou

The red-door encounter features a Ryuuou with much higher HP than in lower difficulties. Only attempt this if your team is well-geared and comfortable with the base EX clear.

Farming Advice

EX vs Challenge

EX is harder and slower than Challenge with no confirmed significant increase in Memory drop rate. Most players should clear EX once for the title, then return to Challenge for Memory farming unless your team can clear EX quickly and safely.

For pure Memory farming, Challenge remains the more stamina-efficient choice for most accounts. The Ryuuou armor set is obtained through the Ryuuou Series gacha, not from EX drops.
